After Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari last year, we might soon witness another dramatic departure from Formula 1. According to recent rumors, Max Verstappen’s future seems increasingly distant from Red Bull, and an announcement could be imminent.
The two favorites to potentially secure the Dutch superstar appear to be Aston Martin and Mercedes. However, Mercedes is expected to renew George Russell’s contract until 2027, with a salary around thirty million per year. Therefore, after a prolonged courtship throughout 2024, Toto Wolff seems no longer interested in hiring Max Verstappen.
This leaves Red Bull’s driver with only Lawrence Stroll’s billion-dollar offer, with Stroll willing to do anything to reunite Verstappen with Adrian Newey, the mastermind behind the success of the Milton Keynes team.
Max Clears Things Up
During the press conference that effectively opened the Saudi Arabian GP weekend, the number 1 driver wanted to clarify what his future holds. “Everyone talks about Mercedes and Aston Martin. Why not Ferrari?” was the question posed to the four-time world champion. “Well, I don’t know. Everyone talks about my future except me. I’m focused only on improving the car. I’m very relaxed,” Max Verstappen responded.
The Dutch Red Bull driver didn’t mince words when replying to another journalist who asked for further details about his potential departure from his current team. “For sure, Bahrain wasn’t our best weekend, and I don’t understand why Marko is afraid I might leave the team. There’s a lot of competition this year, but that’s part of the game. I’m not thinking about leaving Red Bull, and you should focus on commenting on the races while I focus on driving,” were the words of the number 1 driver from Red Bull.
