Lewis Hamilton’s transfer to Scuderia Ferrari would not only bring an absolute champion to the team but also (perhaps more importantly) a significant boost to the Maranello team’s image after many failures over the last fifteen years. It’s not just a commercial operation but also a strategic one, with the seven-time Formula 1 world champion in red possibly paving the way for the arrival of other significant technical talents.
However, one of those does not seem to be Adrian Newey, with pit-lane reporter who works for Sky Sports F1, Ted Kravitz, thinking that Lewis’s arrival in Maranello won’t affect the English designer’s willingness to leave Red Bull for Italy: “I don’t believe that who drives for Ferrari is a motivating factor for Adrian Newey.” – he pointed out.
“He’s had many opportunities to join Ferrari in the past. Nothing is impossible, he might join them in the future, but I don’t believe it has to do with the driver in the car. I think for Adrian, factors like where he lives, communication with the team, and the potential freedom to do his work are more important than designing a car for Lewis or Max Verstappen, or anyone else.” – Ted Kravitz continued.
The geographic location of the prancing horse is one of the big issues that have been discussed in recent months. Clearly, most British technicians are reluctant to leave their country, often with wives and children, to move to Italy, considering that 7 out of the 10 teams are based in England.
Despite having a whole year ahead of him at Mercedes, Ted Kravitz does not believe Lewis Hamilton will be sidelined by the team: “He will attend all the necessary meetings to progress this year’s car. I don’t think there will be many times when, during a technical briefing at a circuit, they will stop and say: ‘At this point, Lewis, you can leave the room’.
“That won’t happen because they will fight until Abu Dhabi to try and win as many races as possible with Lewis and George Russell. I believe they respect him a lot.” – the Sky Sports reporter concluded.
