Why Ferrari chose to display F1 victory flag on another building in Maranello

“Another flag in Maranello!” – Sebastian Vettel used to shout after every triumph with Scuderia Ferrari. Hoisting the flag at headquarters after a victory is a long-standing tradition for the Prancing Horse: this year, however, the red flag changes location.

The dawn of the Australian Grand Prix sweetened the Sunday for Ferrari fans. On Palm Sunday, the tolls of the bell tower of the parish in Maranello celebrated the double success of Ferrari, as the Italian side also made a huge leap in both championship races.

Confidence, renewed by the arrival of Frederic Vasseur and optimism for the work at the beginning of the year, received a significant boost in the Melbourne weekend. It’s a double win that revitalizes a team which had lacked such highs since Singapore 2023. New vitality and new hopes, but old traditions remain: in the home town of the Scuderia, the habit at Ferrari’s factory remains and one day after the Albert Park race, the red banners fly over the carmaker’s headquarters.

The tradition is confirmed, the Ferrari victory flag is there, but no longer at the entrance of the Racing Division. The first Prancing Horse-branded victory of the 2024 season brings with it an interesting novelty. In Maranello, alongside the celebratory flag of the 24 Hours of Daytona, Carlos Sainz’s flag is added.

“From this year, the flags will no longer be displayed at the entrance of the part reserved for the Scuderia,” announces Sky journalist Carlo Vanzini through his social media.

The location chosen by the team is different and more “inclusive,” perhaps recovering some aspects of that #essereFerrari hashtag that Mattia Binotto used to talk about. From 2024, the Prancing Horse will display the flags alongside the sign at the entrance of the historic headquarters on Via Abetone Inferiore “to underline everyone’s belonging to the team.”
