In F1TV Tech Talk, Ferrari Head of Power Unit area Enrico Gualtieri confirmed that since the Maranello team has already introduced the 2022 hybrid system, they can upgrade it one more time next year until the second half of the 2022 Formula One championship, before the freeze and has confirmed that Ferrari will continue to develop the engine in order to gain more power and reliability.
Enrico Gualtieri: “Starting from the first race (2022), the ICE, the turbo, MGU-H and finally the fluids like oil and fuel will be frozen. While for the hybrid system, it will be possible at the end to be developed. If not in the first race, at least until the second half of the season. For sure we will have to be focused first of all in trying to explore every kind of performance gain on the hybrid system till the second half of the season. Overall it will be a matter of reliability and the work after the first race in 2022. At the end any kind of change, not only for reliability but also for cost reduction will be allowed by a specific procedure by FIA. I think this will be an interesting area of working after 2022. It will be also important for the preparation next power units which will be introduced in 2026.”
