The blame for what happened to Ferrari in China lies with Fred Vasseur, according to Cesare Fiorio. The former Ferrari sporting director, known for holding various roles in the sports world, harshly criticized Fred Vasseur’s management of the Maranello team.
Cesare Fiorio, now retired from public life, rarely gives interviews. After leaving management roles, he also worked as a pundit for Rai during F1 world championships in the early 2000s. However, in a video posted on his niece’s social media profiles, he is captured discussing Ferrari’s downfall in Shanghai. In the video, he shares his opinion on what happened and who should be held responsible.
Who is to blame for Ferrari’s failure in China?
“Surely, if we have to identify someone responsible, it is the head of Ferrari (Fred Vasseur, in this case). If both cars are found to be non-compliant with the regulations, then it means he did not check and allowed the cars to be out of spec,” Fiorio explains in the video with his niece.
“The disqualification for two different reasons—one underweight, one with excessive floor wear—means they were not checked. The blame can only be his,” says the former Ferrari executive from the Alain Prost era.
He then adds words of praise for Lewis Hamilton. “The Englishman showed during the Sprint that he is a champion and worthy of everything he has won. I am sure he will do well at Ferrari. He has raced for very strong teams, and with his experience, he will know what to do and what not to do to bring Ferrari back to victory.” – Cesare Fiorio concluded at the end of the Chinese Grand Prix.
And that is exactly what all Ferrari fans can only hope for.
