A peculiar moment that went largely unnoticed but was caught by a few observant fans: Lewis Hamilton riding a scooter toward the Mercedes garage. After another disastrous weekend, Ferrari heads home with points only from the Sprint Race, where the Briton dominated.
During the Chinese GP, a spectator filmed the seven-time world champion making his way to his former team. The curious incident took place before the start of the race. After positioning his SF-25 on the starting grid, #44, dressed in Ferrari red, took his scooter and rode to the Mercedes garage, followed by Angela Cullen, his longtime personal trainer.
Reactions were immediate: the Silver Arrows mechanics were a bit surprised to see him arrive. Lewis Hamilton responded with a simple smile and a nod.
A funny moment or a hint of nostalgia? One can only wonder how he feels seeing a competitive Mercedes for two races in a row, with George Russell consistently on the podium and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in top form.
Last year, Toto Wolff’s team had a disastrous start to the season, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell barely breaking into the top 10 in the first two races. In Australia, things were even worse, with the seven-time champion retiring and his teammate finishing seventeenth.
This year, Sir Lewis finds himself in a similar situation, at least after the first two rounds. In Australia, he finished tenth. In China, he won the Sprint but was disqualified after the race, along with Charles Leclerc, due to technical infractions.
