Few records in Formula 1 history can rival the extraordinary achievements accumulated by Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver has rewritten countless statistical categories throughout a career spanning nearly two decades, becoming the most successful race winner the sport has ever seen.
Yet even a driver with more than 100 Grand Prix victories still has a few unfinished chapters.
Following his breakthrough Ferrari victory at the inaugural Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton added another event to an already astonishing list of races conquered throughout his Formula 1 career. The triumph further expanded a record that already places him comfortably ahead of every rival in terms of different Grands Prix won.
However, despite his remarkable consistency and longevity, several Formula 1 events have managed to evade him.
Some still offer opportunities for future success, while others have disappeared from the calendar entirely, leaving Lewis Hamilton permanently unable to complete a perfect collection.
Barcelona-Catalunya became another milestone in an extraordinary career
The 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix represented much more than Lewis Hamilton’s first Ferrari victory.
It also marked the 40th distinct Grand Prix event that the seven-time world champion has entered during his Formula 1 journey.
As Formula 1 has evolved, races have appeared, disappeared, changed names and moved locations. Throughout these changes, Lewis Hamilton has remained a constant presence, competing across multiple eras of the sport. By winning the inaugural Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton extended his record for the number of different Grands Prix won, moving further clear of his closest challengers in this unique statistical category.
The achievement shows the remarkable adaptability that has allowed Lewis Hamilton to remain competitive across radically different generations of Formula 1 machinery.
Only a small number of races remain missing from Lewis Hamilton’s collection
When examining Lewis Hamilton’s career record, the most striking aspect is not the list of races he has won but rather how few remain unconquered.
Among the 40 different Grand Prix events he has entered, only a handful have never resulted in victory. Several of those races have seen the Briton come agonizingly close to success. In fact, second place has been his most common result at many of the events still missing from his résumé.
That statistic highlights how narrow the margins have often been between victory and defeat, even for Formula 1’s most successful driver. While some opportunities remain available, others have effectively disappeared forever due to calendar changes and the sport’s evolving commercial landscape.
The race Lewis Hamilton can never win
Among all the events absent from Lewis Hamilton’s victory list, one stands apart because it will almost certainly never return.
The 70th Anniversary Grand Prix was created as a one-off event during Formula 1’s disrupted 2020 season, when the championship adapted its schedule in response to the global pandemic. Held at Silverstone one week after the British Grand Prix, the race produced a rare defeat for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton on home soil, with Max Verstappen securing victory through superior tyre management and race execution.
Lewis Hamilton finished second that afternoon and, because the event was specifically created for a unique moment in Formula 1 history, it is unlikely ever to be staged again.
As a result, it remains the only race on this list that the British driver has no realistic opportunity to add to his collection in the future.
Zandvoort could be Lewis Hamilton’s final chance
Among the currently active Grands Prix, the Dutch Grand Prix may be the most time-sensitive challenge facing Lewis Hamilton.
The Zandvoort circuit returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021 and has become one of the sport’s most distinctive modern venues. However, its future on the calendar is limited. With the event scheduled to leave Formula 1 after 2026, the former Mercedes man effectively has one final opportunity to secure a victory at the iconic seaside circuit.
His closest attempt came during the race’s return, when he finished second behind Max Verstappen. If Lewis Hamilton fails to win at Zandvoort before the race disappears from the schedule, it may join the list of events that forever remain beyond his reach.
Indian and Miami Grands Prix stand out for a different reason
Most races that Lewis Hamilton has never won still feature podium finishes on his record.
However, two events are particularly notable because they are the only Grands Prix in which Lewis Hamilton has competed without ever reaching the podium. The first is the Indian Grand Prix, which was held between 2011 and 2013 at the Buddh International Circuit. Despite several competitive performances, the Briton never managed a top-three finish during Formula 1’s brief visit to India.
The second is the Miami Grand Prix, a race that has quickly become one of Formula 1’s flagship events but has so far resisted Lewis Hamilton’s efforts. Given the event’s continued presence on the calendar, Miami remains one of the most realistic opportunities for Lewis Hamilton to erase an unusual statistical anomaly.
A record that highlights Lewis Hamilton’s longevity
Beyond the victories themselves, the seven-time world champion’s ability to achieve podium finishes across such a vast range of races may be equally impressive.
His record of podium appearances at different Grand Prix events remains unmatched in Formula 1 history and reflects an extraordinary level of consistency across changing regulations, teams and competitive eras.
From McLaren to Mercedes and now Ferrari, the seven-time world champion has maintained an ability to compete at the front regardless of circumstance. That adaptability continues to be one of the defining characteristics of his career and explains why, even at this stage of his Formula 1 journey, new records continue to emerge.
The Grands Prix Lewis Hamilton has entered but never won
| Grand Prix | Years Held | Lewis Hamilton’s Best Result |
|---|---|---|
| 70th Anniversary Grand Prix | 2020 | 2nd |
| European Grand Prix | 2007–2012, 2016 | 2nd (Valencia) |
| Indian Grand Prix | 2011–2013 | 4th (2012) |
| Korean Grand Prix | 2010–2013 | 2nd (2010, 2011) |
| Las Vegas Grand Prix | 2023–Present | 2nd (2024) |
| Mexico City Grand Prix | 2021–Present | 2nd (2021, 2022, 2023) |
| Miami Grand Prix | 2022–Present | 6th |
| Dutch Grand Prix | 2021–Present | 2nd (2021) |
Considering Lewis Hamilton’s current form with Ferrari and the team’s improving competitiveness, several races on this list may not remain there for much longer. Yet regardless of what happens during the remainder of the 2026 season, the fact that only a handful of Formula 1 events have escaped one of the sport’s greatest drivers remains a remarkable achievement in itself.
