The 2026 pre-season tests in Formula 1 are just around the corner, and fans are eager to find out whether teams will reveal their true pace or keep their cards close to their chest. With the 2026 season set to bring a technical revolution, including new power units and chassis regulations, the pre-season testing calendar promises to be intense and starts well in advance.
When and where will the tests take place?
As happened in 2022, the FIA has scheduled a total of nine testing days. The first tests will take place in Barcelona from January 26 to 30. During this initial phase, each team will have three days of testing, all behind closed doors and away from prying eyes.
Following the Barcelona session, attention will shift to Bahrain, which will host two consecutive public test sessions. The first Bahrain session is scheduled for February 11-13, while the second will take place from February 18-20. These sessions will provide teams with valuable data as they prepare for the new season.
Where to watch F1 tests on TV?
Good news for fans: the Bahrain tests will be broadcast on television. Last year, Sky Sport F1, along with F1 TV, provided coverage. Exact timings have not yet been announced.

Why are the tests so important?
The 2022 tests revealed the porpoising problem, which had a major impact on the start of the season. The 2026 regulations, however, present completely new challenges. One of the most anticipated topics is the management of electrical power, which will need to account for 50% of total power compared to the internal combustion engine—a change that could redefine the competitive balance on track.
With a new technical regulation in place, these tests are crucial for teams to understand the performance level of their cars. However, not all teams are expected to push to 100% immediately. Some may try to hide their true pace, as happened between 2016 and 2019, when Ferrari appeared dominant in testing, but the season unfolded very differently.
