The uncertainty lingers, not only for Charles Leclerc but for everyone involved. Will his current path yield the results he desires and, more importantly, the results Ferrari so desperately needs? It’s been a while since Ferrari claimed a championship title, dating back to 2008, and for a reason. The current Formula 1 season has been a challenging one, beginning with high hopes of a title challenge that never quite materialized. Ferrari stumbled right out of the gate.
Charles Leclerc remains cautiously optimistic for now, entering the next Formula 1 season with faith in Ferrari’s potential to secure victories. He’s also hoping that Red Bull might eventually hit a performance plateau, allowing Ferrari to make substantial gains. However, Frederic Vasseur‘s vision extends far into the future, addressing weaknesses step by step and building a team that will only reach its full potential in the next 18 months to two years, perhaps even longer.
The essential thing is the Monegasque’s willingness to be part of this long-term project. Despite another Formula 1 campaign filled with the Maranello team’s frustrations, technical constraints, increased competition, and specific car-related issues, he hasn’t shown signs of wanting to leave. This is why there has been substantial speculation throughout the year about other teams expressing interest in him, with connections to Mercedes and Aston Martin.
From one perspective, it might seem like Charles Leclerc is positive about Ferrari and saying these things because he doesn’t have immediate alternatives. Where’s the new contract, if he’s that committed?
Similar to his previous renewal, it isn’t an immediate priority within the current Formula One season. Nevertheless, his contract extends until the end of the following year, leaving room for potential changes in the driver market.
If the Monegasque decided to prioritize his own interests and believed the Italian side couldn’t provide him with the competitive single-seater he requires, he could let his contract run down and explore other options from the 2025 F1 championship. He has at least acknowledged the possibility that, sooner or later, he might need to part ways with Ferrari, and if that happens, he will prioritize his career over emotions.

“I view it in a way that whenever I won’t believe in the project anymore, that probably will be the time when I’ll have to go away. Because it’s in these kinds of situations that you don’t get the best out of yourself, that you don’t help the team as much as it needs to be helped. But this is definitely not the case at the moment. I believe in the project as much as I’ve ever believed in the project before. Especially since Fred arrived. So for now it’s clear. Then it’s also clear that I want to win. But I believe in this project and I’m sure we are working in the right direction.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
When Charles Leclerc can maintain such unwavering belief in a moment like this, it transcends mere sentiment. This could potentially emerge as a significant source of optimism for Ferrari in a season that has provided so few.
