During the press conference for the 2023 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix at the 5.807-kilometre Suzuka International Racing Course, Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc discussed the Maranello team’s development plan for the 2026 Formula 1 championship. Has he already renewed his contract? It all happened last weekend but the situation went almost unnoticed. During the Suzuka event, Charles Leclerc was asked about his expectations regarding the upcoming regulatory changes in less than three years.
“As a driver, it’s very difficult to know exactly where each team stands. I focus on myself and Ferrari. I haven’t had the opportunity to drive the 2026 car in the simulator yet, but as soon as it’s possible, I will be able to tell a bit more. But yes, for now, it’s very difficult to have a clear picture of the development or anything.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
Something doesn’t seem to add up in these comments because Charles Leclerc’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Is it just a simple mix-up, or has Charles Leclerc just confirmed that he has renewed his contract with the Maranello team before the official announcement of Ferrari?
