Formula 1 officially enters a new era as the FIA, Formula 1 management, and all eleven teams have signed the 2026 Concorde Agreement. This landmark accord establishes the governance, commercial framework, and economic stability of the championship from 2026 through 2030. On paper, the deal unites the three main pillars of power in the sport: the FIA as the regulatory authority, F1 as the holder of commercial rights, and the teams, now aligned ahead of the major technical overhaul coming in 2026.
This is the ninth version of the Concorde Agreement, a historic document that has for decades determined who makes key decisions, how revenues are distributed, and the responsibilities of each participant in the championship. Without it, modern Formula 1 could not exist in its current structure.
Key agreement for the 2026 era
Getting all eleven teams to sign – a challenging feat considering Formula 1’s often turbulent politics – provides a stable foundation to navigate the upcoming regulatory revolution. The changes include new hybrid power units, reworked aerodynamics, lighter and more efficient cars, and a more structured sporting and commercial model.
The 2026 Concorde Agreement will ensure:
- A clearer and shared governance framework;
- FIA investment in race direction, stewarding, and technical expertise;
- A stable commercial platform;
- Operational continuity for teams, promoters, and stakeholders.
With the championship experiencing strong media growth and reaching wider demographics, the timing of the new agreement is ideal to support the global expansion of Formula 1.
Official statements
Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, described the signing as “a decisive step to ensure F1 has the best conditions for future growth,” highlighting the symbolic value of the accord during the sport’s 75th anniversary year.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem referred to the agreement as one that “ensures long-term stability for the championship,” noting that the new framework will allow the Federation to modernize technical tools, improve race official support, and enhance volunteer training.
The 2026 Concorde Agreement is far from a mere formality; it establishes the political and economic foundation that will enable Formula 1 to navigate the most significant transformation of recent decades. With a deal in place until 2030 and stakeholders finally aligned, the sport is ready to write its next chapter.
