One of the most important pieces of the 2022 Formula 1 drivers market will soon be confirmed. The negotiations between Scuderia Ferrari and Carlos Sainz for the renewal of the contract, which will mark the continuation of the partnership between the Spaniard and the Maranello team, will soon come to and end. A few details are still missing, but the official agreement and announcement should arrive in April and will confirm Carlos Sainz in Maranello for the next two Formula 1 seasons.
Scuderia Ferrari has decided to focus on stability and does so on the basis of very positive feedback from both the track (during the 2021 season and in this first part of the 2022 campaign) and from the work done by Carlos inside the garage, after immediately adapting to the new environment. Carlos Sainz will thus be in the same conditions as Charles Leclerc: the Monegasque driver also has a contract available until the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
The Maranello team is therefore looking to the future, and in the next two years the driver line-up has been decided. A step towards long-term work planning and good news for all with one exception, namely Mick Schumacher.
It is no mystery that the Ferrari Driver Academy member aspired to receive a seat alongside Charles Leclerc, but at this moment his limited experience and the results in his first Formula 1 year (obviously also taking into consideration the not very competitive Haas of 2021) do not match with what is required of a driver to be promoted to a top team like Scuderia Ferrari, especially if the Italian side’s plans are to aim for the highest goals and fight for the world titles.

For Mick Schumacher there is of course time to achieve his dream of racing for the famous Maranello team and emulating the success of his iconic father Michael. The 23-year-old German will continue his experience behind the wheel of Ferrari-powered cars and will be hoping to further improve to have a chance of joining Scuderia Ferrari from the 2025 Formula 1 season.
