The qualifying session in Brazil marked yet another disappointing weekend for Lewis Hamilton, increasingly frustrated by the perplexing Ferrari SF-25. His comments after the session revealed both his disappointment and the few hopes he has going into the race.
Lewis Hamilton completed the qualifying session for the 2025 Brazil Grand Prix in 13th place, a second poor result for the weekend following his early exit in Friday’s Sprint qualifying. Unsurprisingly, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion expressed his frustration and, when asked about any realistic chances in the race, his words reflected the challenging situation.
Lewis Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari has so far proven to be a real struggle. In the previous two races, the British driver seemed to finally find a solid feel with the complex SF-25, but in Brazil, he fell back into uncertainty. Although the weekend is not yet over, opportunities for car #44 will be limited given his starting position. His comments give insight into his mindset heading into the race.
Lewis Hamilton: “Good setup, but the problem…”
“The car was performing well at high speed, and we were also strong on the straights. You can see Charles is in the top three, so clearly his car is better today. I had zero grip at the rear; the tires just didn’t work today. The car setup seemed fine, the problem was only in the way we prepared the tires,” Hamilton explained to Sky Sports F1. Once again, the issue of execution emerged, this time related to getting the tires up to temperature. It’s worth noting that this issue did not appear for Leclerc, who managed to control it and secured third place on the grid.
When asked about his hopes for the race, Lewis Hamilton’s response was unequivocal: “I can’t do anything starting from that position.” After making this statement, the British driver quickly left the cameras, clearly showing his disappointment. The Brazil GP holds a special significance for car #44. Hamilton has a strong connection with Ayrton Senna and a deep bond with the Brazilian fans. Although chances in the race are slim, Lewis Hamilton is expected to give his maximum effort to honor what he considers his second home.
