Even in Singapore, Ferrari showed weaknesses that seem too deep to overcome in the fight against their rivals — yet Lewis Hamilton remains hopeful. What was expected to be a spectacular first season for the Hamilton–Ferrari pairing has instead turned into a difficult and complex challenge. While at first it was Hamilton who seemed to be underperforming, it is now clear that the most serious shortcomings come directly from the SF-25, a car that, as many have said within Maranello, was “born wrong.”
For much of the season, the British driver appeared unable to fully adapt to the new environment and demands of the Scuderia. Hamilton has consistently lagged behind teammate Charles Leclerc — currently the only Ferrari driver to reach the podium so far — while his own highlight remains the Sprint victory achieved in China.
However, since the summer break, the seven-time world champion has returned to the track with renewed motivation and a more positive mindset. Unfortunately, his optimism has not been matched by the car’s performance. Once again, in Singapore, the SF-25 failed to keep pace with its improving rivals, leaving Ferrari seemingly stuck in place while others move forward.
As a result, the Scuderia has slipped to third in the Constructors’ Championship standings, with Mercedes pulling away ahead and Red Bull closing in dangerously — now just eight points behind. To make matters worse, Hamilton encountered brake issues in the final laps of the Singapore Grand Prix, further hampering his performance. Yet, despite these setbacks, the British driver continues to stand firmly behind his team.
Hamilton’s words
“The guys work so hard every weekend that I really feel pain for the whole team,” Lewis Hamilton told DAZN in his post-race interviews. “From catering to marketing, from the mechanics to the engineers — they all show up every weekend and give absolutely everything.”
He continued: “But the car we have right now isn’t at the same level as the guys in front of us, especially because they’ve had some updates that we just can’t match. So we’re on the edge, trying to get as close as possible.”
According to Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari’s main weakness lies in qualifying. “There was potential to be further up,” he admitted. “In qualifying, we’re still not extracting the full potential of the car. We could have started third and fourth on the grid this weekend if we had optimized tyre performance and avoided getting stuck at the end of the pit lane, for example.”
“In the race, we were roughly on par with at least a couple of cars ahead of us, but not faster. If we can sort out our qualifying — which is very difficult — then maybe we can get slightly better results. But for now, we’re still fighting for fourth, fifth, or sixth place at best,” Lewis Hamilton concluded.
