Carlos Sainz, starting from fifth position, ended the Sprint of the Brazilian GP in the same position, which is not good enough for Ferrari. While teammate Charles Leclerc tried to stay close to the two McLarens and find some rhythm, the same cannot be said for Carlos Sainz.
“It was a really difficult Sprint for me,” Carlos Sainz stated at the Sky Sport F1 microphones. The Spanish driver admitted to making “a lot of mistakes at the beginning that cost me a lot of time; the track was very slippery.”
The Sprint Race was marked by anonymity for the #55 driver, who is far from satisfied with the performance of the SF-24 on this circuit. “Here, when you go off the racing line, you pick up a lot of dirt on the tires. It’s clear that we are not at McLaren’s level right now; we need to do something to improve the car if we want to be more competitive,” he declared, urging Ferrari to take action.
The Scuderia needs to change something and explore other options if it wants to replicate its achievements in Austin and Mexico. Charles Leclerc admitted that he tried to apply pressure on Lando Norris, but it didn’t last long. By the end of the Sprint, the Monegasque had no tires left. “There were many mistakes due to high degradation. This was my choice: we made a mistake, but we lost only one point compared to what we could have ideally achieved, and I learned a lot for tomorrow. Setup changes? Definitely yes for the race,” he concluded in front of the Sky Sport F1 cameras.
Qualifying for the Brazilian GP will start at 19:00. Ferrari will need to come up with something to avoid another defensive race against McLaren and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.
