Vitantonio Liuzzi, who was a guest on SkySportF1 Italy this weekend, did not hold back after Vasseur’s comments following the race.
Vitantonio Liuzzi particularly focused on Fred Vasseur’s remarks about Ferrari’s performance in the Miami GP. Specifically, the team principal claimed that the SF-25 was on par with Mercedes and Red Bull. In other words, Ferrari is currently battling to be the second-best team in the championship.
“Ferrari like Red Bull and Mercedes” but when?
“I don’t agree with what Fred Vasseur is saying. Ferrari wasn’t on the level of Mercedes and Red Bull except for the final laps of the race.” These were the words of the former Italian driver, who immediately emphasized that Vasseur’s statement did not reflect the real situation of Ferrari.
After all, it’s hard to argue with him. Yes, Ferrari had times similar to their two rivals, but not throughout the race. In fact, they achieved comparable times when both Russell and Verstappen were managing their cars and no longer pushing them to the limit. On the other hand, Ferrari was pushing to try to catch Kimi Antonelli and defend their position from Carlos Sainz’s Williams (not exactly a McLaren).
In the end, supporting such a claim only further drags Fred Vasseur into a media storm from which Ferrari needs to escape. What was seen in Miami represents a very low point, and now, with Imola on the horizon, disappointment and frustration could still increase.
Hopefully, the Italian fans won’t have to watch Ferrari struggle to pass a Haas for several laps
