Mercedes isn’t the only Formula 1 team which needs to change its concept in order to have a chance to challenge Red Bull at least for a couple of race wins in 2023. For the first time, Scuderia Ferrari has confirmed that it could also be in trouble on that score.
After three rounds of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz did not manage to score even one podium finish and during the recent Australian Grand Prix weekend it had only the fourth-fastest car. Up until then, talk had been about improving the consistency of the car through set-up changes and ongoing upgrades during the season. However, early in the Melbourne weekend, Carlos Sainz revealed the issue could in fact lie with the basic concept of the SF-23 car and the fact Red Bull’s simply offers greater performance potential.
So what exactly does Carlos Sainz mean, why is Ferrari struggling and what does it mean for the rest of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign?
