Lewis Hamilton delights fans after promising Ferrari test in Bahrain
Lewis Hamilton left Bahrain with encouraging signs on track and an unforgettable off-track moment that quickly went viral among Formula 1 fans. After completing an intensive pre-season programme with Ferrari, the seven-time world champion looked increasingly comfortable in the SF-26, building mileage, experimenting with setups, and steadily gaining confidence ahead of the season opener in Australia.
Across the test sessions in Barcelona and Bahrain, the Briton covered approximately 533 laps in total — a significant workload that allowed him and the Scuderia to gather crucial data. While a few minor delays slightly interrupted the programme, the overall picture was positive. The Briton focused heavily on long-run pace, tyre management, and car balance rather than chasing headline lap times, a clear indication that Ferrari’s approach was centred on consistency and race preparation.
On the timesheets, it was Charles Leclerc who grabbed attention with the fastest lap of the entire test, a 1:31.992 that positioned Ferrari firmly in the conversation alongside McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes ahead of the March 8 Australian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, ended the test seventh quickest overall — a result that only partially reflects his true programme, which was geared more toward understanding the car’s behaviour over extended stints.
From a technical perspective, Ferrari’s SF-26 appeared stable through medium- and high-speed corners, with solid traction on corner exit — a key area of development compared to last season. Hamilton’s feedback is expected to play a crucial role in fine-tuning the package, especially in qualifying trim where marginal gains can define the competitive order. The data collected in Bahrain will now be analysed in detail back in Maranello before final refinements are introduced in Melbourne.
Beyond the stopwatch, however, one of the most talked-about moments came after Lewis Hamilton stepped out of the car. Wearing Ferrari red and leaving the paddock in his typically relaxed style, the British driver stopped to greet supporters who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their new hero in scarlet.
In a video that quickly circulated online, a fan told him she planned to attend all 24 races this season just to see him compete. Clearly surprised and visibly touched, Lewis Hamilton responded: “you’re doing… no way??? wow!!” The spontaneous exchange highlighted not only his enduring global appeal, but also the emotional connection many fans already feel as he begins this new chapter with Ferrari.
The enthusiasm surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s second year with the Maranello team has injected fresh energy into the team and its supporters. With Ferrari showing promising early pace and both drivers contributing extensive mileage during testing, expectations are naturally rising. Still, pre-season results can often be misleading, and the true competitive hierarchy will only become clear once the lights go out in Melbourne.
For now, though, there is a sense of optimism. Lewis Hamilton appears settled, motivated, and fully engaged in the development process. Ferrari, strengthened by valuable data and a strong benchmark time from Charles Leclerc, heads into the opening round knowing it has a solid foundation to build upon.
