This video highlights the two different kinematics applied to the front steering wheels between the Ferrari F1-75 and the Red Bull RB-18.
The first performs a “SLIP” TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT of the front wheels. The second, in addition to the tilt, implements a CLOCKWISE AND ANTICLOCKWISE “ROTATION” of the entire front axle.
Pulling the wheel back on the inside corner like on the Red Bull cars means that:
1- they can align the rotation axes between the two front wheels in such a way as to draw along their rolling, two CONCENTRIC arcs of circle therefore without problems between the respective DIRECTION VECTORS of the front wheels, which leads to considerable reduction of tyre degradation.
2- the internally curved front wheel is the one that undergoes the lift of the roll although it is subjected to the Down Force of the Frontal Wing but if the wheel in question is moved back with the rotation of its own axis around the center line of the axle, the downforce of the frontal wing is able to exploit a greater “LEVERAGE EFFECT” due to the simple fact of having the fulcrum point further away!
3- Still on the subject of the front wheel just mentioned, there is a fluid dynamic/aerodynamic phenomenon on the volume of air located in front of the front wing on its curved inner half: the “ventilation” effect of the rotation together with the aerodynamics of the tread surface facilitates a greater entry of air from under the “Bottom/External Curve” (Perfect Ground Effect). In addition to the ventilation effect of that volume of air, it makes it a real pumped floor!
