As he prepares for his final races with Mercedes before his more to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 Formula 1 season, Valtteri Bottas admitted that “you just never know” if Scuderia Ferrari could be in his future.
During the last fine seasons, Valtteri Bottas had the opportunity to driver the most dominant Formula 1 car, but in 2022 he will be off to Alfa Romeo, replacing former Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen, who is retiring.
The Finn’s swap means he will be racing a Ferrari-powered car for the first time in his Formula 1 career and Bottas admitted that he doesn’t rule out even a closer collaboration with the Maranello team potentially opening the door to a move to Ferrari in the future:
“I can’t predict the future,” he said in the interview for Beyond The Grid podcast, “and with this sport you never know what happens, you just never know. At least for the next few years I’ll be with Alfa Romeo and that’s a thing I’m looking forward to. But I still have time in Formula 1, and you never know.” – the Finn added.

Next year’s championship will, at least on the strength of the last seasons, be a lot different to what Valtteri Bottas has been used to at Mercedes. While the Finn has spent the past five seasons fighting at the front of the field, taking 10 race victories in the process, next season scoring points will be the main target.
Regarding the Maranello team’s line-up, in 2019 Charles Leclerc agreed a new five-year contract to remain with Ferrari until at least the end of the 2024 season, while Carlos Sainz signed a two-year contract with Scuderia Ferrari only last year. An agreement that will expire at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, but as things stand, the Italian side has no reason not to offer the Spanish driver a contract extension.
