Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc was the best man in qualifying in the 2022 Formula One season. As he already managed to do in 2019, during his first championship as a Scuderia Ferrari driver, the 25-year-old from the Principality of Monaco was the one capable of securing the most starts from pole position: no one has managed to surpass his nine pole positions, not even Red Bull world champion Max Verstappen, who ended the season with seven poles.
Taking into consideration the two poles secured in 2021 and the seven of the aforementioned 2019 Formula 1 season, Charles Leclerc’s total now shows 18 poles. The same achieved throughout a career by important Formula 1 drivers such as Kimi Raikkonen, Mario Andretti and René Arnoux. Just like the Frenchman, however, the young Ferrari star has not yet been able to win a Formula One world title.
Age is obviously still on Charles Leclerc’s side, as the Ferrari man still has at least a decade in front of him and perhaps even more to achieve his dream of becoming world champion and put his name in the exclusive F1 legends club. But now, in 2023, one of the Ferrari driver’s goals will be not to break the record of Valtteri Bottas, who is the driver in the history of Formula 1 to have obtained the most race starts from the top position on the grid – 20 – without ever winning an F1 world championship. With just two pole positions behind the Alfa Romeo driver, Charles Leclerc will certainly catch up with the former Mercedes man in the 2023 F1 campaign. His hope, and obviously that of all the Ferrari fans is for the Monegasque to be able to celebrate his first Formula 1 title at the end of the next season.
