When the name of Frederic Vasseur emerged clearly and forcefully as Mattia Binotto’s potential successor at the helm of the Scuderia Ferrari team, a part of fans and insiders wondered how the French manager could have adapted to the environment of Maranello given his other activities.
In fact, Fred Vasseur’s various extra-F1 commitments were well known, the main one being the management of Spark Racing Technology, the company he founded and in 2012 as a supplier of Formula E chassis.
As leaked in recent weeks, the Frenchman will devote himself entirely to his commitment to Ferrari, abandoning his other activities at an operational level, starting with Spark, where he was chairman of the board of directors.
During the meeting with the specialized foreign press that was held in Maranello in recent days, Frederic Vasseur in fact assured that he had given up the operational tasks in his company, while maintaining a shareholding. The Ferrari team principal explained that leading Formula 1’s most successful team is not a job that can be done “part time”, noting that a 100% commitment will not be sufficient in leading a team of this size and prestige. Fred Vasseur then added that he will report to his superiors – the managing director Benedetto Vigna and the chairman John Elkann – two or three times a week, as already happened to him in his previous experience at Sauber.
