A change in a situation that you don’t expect. From 6 August in Italy the green pass has become necessary in order to access any venue or place where a show or sporting event is scheduled. The 2021 Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza scheduled for Sunday 12 September and the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix scheduled for the following Sunday (19) are no exception. In order to take a seat in the grandstand, it will be necessary to show the QR Code which certifies that you have the necessary requirements to be able to access the event in question. Formula 1 and MotoGP teams and drivers will be no exception, but a significant bureaucratic problem is looming on the horizon.
As pointed out by today’s edition of Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport, several drivers and teams of the two greatest forms of racing will have to deal with the European regulations in force in Italy, because all vaccines received outside the countries of the European Union are not valid. This seriously jeopardizes the validity of the green pass of all those who have decided to take advantage of the offers and opportunities that occurred at the beginning of the season when Bahrain and Qatar made doses of Pfizer available to their respective paddocks hosted in order to carry out the vaccination cycle with the prescribed double dose.
All members of the UK teams who have followed the vaccination program in Great Britain are also in possession of vaccination certifications that are not valid in Italy because they were held in a country that is no longer part of the European Union after Brexit. A week ago, former goalkeeper and now football coach Walter Zenga had just started the Pfizer vaccination after receiving a double dose of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine in Dubai. He absolutely wants to return to Italy to follow the Serie A championship which will begin on the weekend of 21 and 22 August, as he confirmed on Instagram: “I will lose the first round of the championship, but what don’t we do for love”, the words of Zenga. A prospect that could suddenly affect the entire Formula 1 and MotoGP paddock in view of the two Italian events. Also because from 1 September the legislation relating to the green pass will also extend to transport.
