Scuderia Ferrari has confirmed that Spanish driver Carlos Sainz will be absent on Thursday for the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend due to health reasons. The Maranello team’s #55 is currently unwell, though the condition is not severe. The Italian side anticipates his return for the first day of on-track activities on Friday as they prepare for the 19th round of the season.
Carlos Sainz secured a fourth-place finish in the most recent United States Grand Prix but was later elevated to third post-race following Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification from second place due to excessive plank wear.
As of now, the 29-year-old occupies the fifth position in the drivers’ championship, tallying 171 points. He holds a 20-point lead and is two positions ahead of his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.
During the previous United States Grand Prix, Leclerc disclosed that he had endured excruciating pain due to a tooth infection in the days leading up to the race in Austin.
It is not uncommon for Formula 1 drivers to miss their media duties on Thursdays when they are not feeling well. Earlier this year, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez also opted to skip media day ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
