Italian manager Stefano Domenicali, former Scuderia Ferrari boss and the current CEO of Formula 1 replacing Chase Carey, has rejected the idea that the Maranello team would receive any preferential treatment from Liberty Media, the owners of the sport’s commercial rights.
Much has been discussed about the fact that Scuderia Ferrari recieve an addtional payment for its historic significance to Formula 1. In this regard, Stefano Domenicali explains that Ferrari is treated just like any other team with respect to sporting and technical regulations.
“No, they (Liberty Media) support a great battle, between all teams,” Stefano Domenicali said, as reported by the Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport – “Clearly Ferrari plays a big role and everyone hopes they do well, because it also helps the business. Ferrari is unique for what they have done in Formula 1 and therefore they play a big role in the history of motorsport.”
The current CEO of Formula 1 also shares his thoughts on the sport’s return at the Imola circuit, which will host the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix next week, the second event of the 2021 Formula 1 season: “Unfortunately it was not possible to race with an audience in Imola this year and I regret that very much. Imola gives me a lot of beautiful memories. As a student I worked as a volunteer in the paddock. That is nice to think back to. Whether they have a chance in the future depends on many variables. We will evaluate it, and we will first have fun on the track next week!” – former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali explained.
