Let’s take a look at the tyre wear per team and compound at the Suzuka circuit based on data collected from the 2023 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix:
Hards:
Red Bull > McLaren > Ferrari = Mercedes > Aston Martin
Mediums:
Red Bull > McLaren > Ferrari = Mercedes >> Aston Martin
The ‘>’ refers to the pace along the stint; not to the wear
Red Bull was unmatched on any compound. Mercedes could manage the Medium tyres very well, even though their outright pace was not exceptional

Tyre Strategies – Japanese GP
George Russell did the longest stint: 29 laps on the Hard set. Other very long stints we’re made by Alonso (28) and Ocon (27 with a full tank)
Oscar Piastri was the first front runner to pit, Carlos Sainz last: the tyre differential negated the car performance difference
