Heading to Las Vegas
The approach of Formula 1 to the highly anticipated weekend of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for November 18th, is certainly not unfolding under the best circumstances. The race in the city of sin, which is the penultimate of the 2023 season, has been extensively promoted by Formula 1, which has also taken charge of its organization.
However, current events have forcibly inserted themselves into what was supposed to be a major sporting celebration. U.S. media have reported that a man who was working on the preparations for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix has died after suffering what the police have termed a “severe neck laceration.”
Weekend Tragedy
Initial reports from the United States indicate that officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call regarding an injured worker at 11:30 am on Saturday (Las Vegas time) at the Bellagio Fountains. The worker was transported to a local hospital and subsequently passed away. The man’s identity was disclosed in recent hours: he was a 37-year-old named Tizco Antonio, who was working in the extensive setup area in front of the Bellagio Resort, dedicated to the spectators attending the Grand Prix.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office stated that Antonio’s death was accidental, and the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently investigating the incident, as reported by the AP news site. “Officials from the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration have been made aware of the fatal incident that occurred Saturday on the Bellagio property,” spokeswoman Teri Williams stated in an email to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “officials have been sent to the scene of the incident to initiate an investigation.” As of now, Formula 1 has not issued any official statements regarding the incident.
