Wolff: “Ferrari will be dangerous in the heat”
Ferrari sandwiched between the two Mercedes
Qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix produced a fascinating and closely contested starting grid, with George Russell securing pole position ahead of Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli will line up together on the second row.
Max Verstappen starts from third row ahead of the two McLarens, and on a circuit like the Red Bull Ring, where overtaking opportunities come early and the run to Turn 1 is particularly short, the opening lap promises to be one of the most exciting moments of the race.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is not expecting his team to dominate the race outright, but he is confident that Andrea Kimi Antonelli has the pace to be a major contender on Sunday. At the same time, Wolff stressed that the young Italian will need to avoid being overly aggressive when the lights go out.
“The Ferraris are very dangerous in hot conditions. Obviously, they will be in the fight for victory,” Toto Wolff told F1 TV. “We have to make the most of Antonelli’s race pace and try to get him back to the front.” – the Mercedes team boss concluded after the Qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix
