There’s a lot to like about Austin, Texas. The restaurant scene is vibrant, the music scene even more so, and there are so many things to do you could find yourself in the city for a year and still not experience half of it. But one of the best things about this city – and we’re sure many locals will agree – comes in the form of a little event known as the United States Grand Prix.
Every year, Formula One fans from across the country – and the world – make their way to Austin, Texas, to witness the best drivers take on one of the most challenging and exciting racecourses in the F1 tournament. This is an awesome track full of tricky corners and fast straights that really show an F1 car’s performance and potential.
The 2023 United States Grand Prix
With breathless overtakes often taking place on Turn 1, the competition gets started right at the beginning, with every driver looking to make their mark and set the tone for the rest of the race. But with a heavy braking zone at Turn 12, no car is ever safe from an overtake, and every driver has to be on their A-game if they want to take and keep the race in their hands.
Although Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won the last three outings, there will be a number of drivers who will be looking to dethrone the master this year. With the circuit playing to the specific strengths of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, all of these drivers will be looking to take advantage and deny Max Verstappen yet another win in his so-far incredible 2023 season.

What To Do In Austin, Texas
If you’re umming and ahhing about participating in this year’s event – or your SO is asking how the heck you could even consider spending $7,600 on a high-end ticket – then there are a few things in Austin, Texas that might persuade you. As mentioned before, Austin is known for its bustling restaurant culture, vibrant music scene and beautiful scenery. If you arrive a week before the action kicks off, you’ll have time to turn this into a mini-vacation, taking in all the sights from the Texas Capitol, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, as well as the Zilker Metropolitan Park.
If you want to keep this solely car-related, you can also visit the Austin Rock & Roll Car Museum – probably the coolest museum in the world – and check out some of the most beautiful historical cars, as well as movie production vehicles. If you’ve been needing a new car and want to take something back from your experience, there are also several car shows in the days after the US Grand Prix that can give you a bit of inspiration – and are sure to be great fun too!
Buying A Car From An Austin Car Show
Some of the best car shows happening immediately after the race include the Rolling Sculpture Car Show, on Sunday 29th October and the 10th Annual Main Street Car Show, happening on the 28th October. These are great opportunities to look at a few cars in the flesh and get excited about driving your own vehicle – rather than watching F1 drivers drive theirs!
Of course, we should mention the pros and cons of actually buying a car from a car show. In terms of the pros, going to a car show means you can talk to experts face to face, get a feel for the car, give it a test drive, and even drive it home – you have the ability to get insurance for cars in Texas online before taking your newly bought car. When it comes to the cons, you have to really make sure that the vehicles drive well, rather than just look nice from an aesthetic point of view. The person selling the car will also have less time to go over every little detail, which means some of the finer particulars are unknown until you take it back and give it a proper lookover.
But if you feel comfortable with the purchase and you trust the person selling the car, then there’s nothing stopping you from making the decision and coming away with your next vehicle. And what a mini-vacation that would be. An exploration of Houston, an experience of a lifetime at the Circuit of the Americas, and a new car to boot. It doesn’t get much better than that!
