As Formula 1 approaches the end of its 2023 season with only six events remaining, and Scuderia Ferrari once again aims for second place in the constructors’ championship, the focus is already shifting to the next championship. But looking to the future, in Maranello, the topic of renewals for Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc still looms.
Italian journalist for Corriere della Sera, Daniele Sparisci, addressed the issue in an interview with Pit-Talk. According to the journalist from the Corriere della Sera, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will renew with the Scuderia.
“In the end, the foundations will be laid for the renewal of both drivers. Ferrari has a good pair of drivers and would have no reason to look for others. Moreover, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz don’t have valid alternatives to Ferrari. In Red Bull, they have Perez until 2024, for example. In Mercedes, both drivers have renewed for two seasons. Before 2025, no doors will open,” he pointed out.
SAINZ TO AUDI?
How true are the rumors linking Carlos Sainz to Audi? Daniele Sparisci also responded to this: “This has been said for a long time because Carlos Sainz’s father races with Audi… These are all the rumors that always surround us until, in the end, an announcement of a driver’s renewal with the same team arrives. It’s a bit like what happened with Lewis Hamilton when he had yet to renew with Mercedes, and Ferrari was always in the mix. Then, in the end, Mercedes issued a statement saying Hamilton had signed for another two years… Audi is a new team entering Formula 1, so they will need to gain experience. If someone really wants to choose the path of becoming the ‘architect’ of a new team, perhaps because they offer you a lot of money or put you at the center of the project, you have to have several years available! Look at Daniel Ricciardo, for example: someone who has changed teams many times and then returned to AlphaTauri…” – Daniele Sparisci added.

“As soon as you step down from the top teams, it’s a ruthless world that offers no discounts. Look at Bottas himself, someone who has won several Formula 1 races and now struggles at the back… So, I would be very cautious about these rumors regarding Carlos Sainz being close to Audi. In other words, Ferrari is holding onto him tightly,” the journalist concluded.
