F1 | Ferrari can return to winning a world championship but only under two conditions
What is missing for Ferrari to return to winning a Formula 1 world championship? This question has been raised once again in the wake of Fred Vasseur’s contract renewal and the disappointment at Monza. The recent statements made by Luca di Montezemolo have reignited a debate that has been central among the Tifosi for many years: why has Ferrari been unable to consistently fight for titles? What is the Scuderia lacking compared to its main rivals?
Finding an answer is not easy, especially considering the words of Fred Vasseur during the Italian Grand Prix weekend. The Ferrari Team Principal stressed that, for the Scuderia, it is more important to secure second place in the constructors’ championship rather than obsessively chasing a race win in the closing stages of the season. These remarks gave the impression that what may be missing is precisely the winning mentality that the former Ferrari president has often criticized.
Who tried to give an answer
Luca di Montezemolo’s words were soon followed by the comments of Carlo Vanzini, who addressed the topic in one of his regular videos on YouTube. The Sky Sport commentator explained: “Can Ferrari get back to winning? Last year the team showed it could fight for the constructors’ championship, so I would say yes. But they must give Fred Vasseur complete freedom. If he has been granted another three years of work, then he must be allowed to make all the necessary decisions without constantly needing approval. And there also needs to be the awareness that the Monza weekend was a failure compared to the expectations before the race. You cannot think of competing with McLaren and then finish more than twenty seconds behind Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.”
