Ten jurors awarded one to 20 points to the current Formula 1 drivers. The points were then combined to create an overall ranking of the protagonists of the 2021 F1 championship. The initiative was made by L’Equipe – the main French sports newspaper – which has brought together a jury that is competent to say the least. Below is the list of name who participated in this ranking:
Nicolas Todt (manager of some drivers including Charles Leclerc and Daniil Kvyat for example)
Jean Eric Vergne (former F1 driver and two-time Formula E world champion)
Jacques Villeneuve (F1 world champion in 1997)
Frederic Vasseur (Alfa Romeo team principal)
Nico Rosberg (F1 world champion in 2016)
Guillaume Rocquelin (Red Bull Engineer Manager)
Damon Hill (F1 world champion in 1996)
François Xavier Demaison (Williams technical director)
Martin Brundle (ex-F1 driver with nine career podiums)
Eric Boullier (director of the French GP)
As for the ranking determined by the scores assigned by the jurors, there are no big surprises regarding the podium, with Lewis Hamilton ahead of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. Carlos Sainz is also included in the Top 5. However, some drivers such as Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso do not even appear in the top-10. Nikita Mazepin received the lowest score, preceded by Yuki Tsunoda, Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi.
