The mysterious team radio between Lewis Hamilton and Riccardo Adami: What does “San Diego” mean?. What does "San Diego" mean? .

In recent days, the radio exchanges between Lewis Hamilton and Riccardo Adami in Australia have been scrutinized and criticized, with some blaming the driver and others the engineer. Arriving in China, the Briton wanted to set the record straight, defending his race engineer and explaining that any “friction” is simply part of getting to know each other—after all, there are no simulations for building a human relationship.

To have some fun with the fans, the two came up with a playful code phrase: “And it’s San Diego,” Riccardo Adami told Lewis Hamilton to inform him of his Sprint Pole. Immediately, everyone wondered what the message meant, but its origin has little to do with racing. The inspiration reportedly comes from the 2004 cult film *Anchorman*, starring Will Ferrell, which Hamilton is known to enjoy. The phrase mirrors a line from the movie, suggesting that the duo used it to build rapport—much like the iconic “It’s Hammertime” exchanges between Bono and car number 44.
