The shaky start to the World Championship by Ferrari does not make a sunny Charles Leclerc doubt ahead of the Japanese GP. From Suzuka, the Monegasque driver is not giving up on the Scuderia’s world championship ambitions, working hard to become competitive again and recover points in the standings.
Melbourne and Shanghai, aside from the Chinese Sprint, did not bring great satisfaction to the Red fans. The double disqualification for Charles and Lewis in China led to two weeks of turbulent rumors about supposed discontent for a struggling Ferrari.
Ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, however, the two team leaders of Fred Vasseur’s squad appeared decidedly relaxed. While Hamilton “100% trusts the team,” Charles Leclerc is no different. The Monegasque believes that, despite the complicated start, the 2025 double world championship is well within Ferrari’s reach.
Ferrari, Charles Leclerc motivates the team: “We can recover for the world championship”
“When asked if there’s concern that the double world championship is no longer a realistic ambition for Ferrari, my answer is: no. Not yet,” Charles Leclerc replied to journalists’ questions at the press conference.
“If we look at the first races of last year, the situation in terms of performance was even worse than it is now,” the #16 driver recalled. “It seemed like Red Bull would dominate the entire season. Instead, by collecting the available points early on, we ended up fighting for the world championship until the very end. And that definitely went beyond our expectations.”
The analysis of 2024 serves as a prologue to Charles Leclerc’s expression of optimism for 2025. The concern of not being able to fight for the world championship “is definitely not a feeling currently present within the team,” the Monegasque driver explained – “We know we haven’t maximized our results in the first two races. This is frustrating,” he admitted. However, giving up is not an option for Charles Leclerc: “This doesn’t mean we can’t recover. The season is very long. Step by step, we can still have an incredible season.”
