Ferrari is back on track at Mugello with the SF21 for a day of training for four drivers who are not the main drivers of the Maranello team, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The Scuderia decided to schedule a session on the Italian track to alternate in the cockpit of the car the two reserve drivers, Robert Shwartzman and Antonio Giovinazzi, and the two drivers who contribute to the development work of the SF-23 on the Maranello simulator, Antonio Fuoco and Davide Rigon.
The local weather conditions do not seem ideal so the work program that has been launched for this session entrusted to the Ferrari test team could undergo variations. It is curious to note that for Davide Rigon, beyond the performance, it is the debut on a Formula 1 hybrid Ferrari.
The opportunity is useful for training with third drivers, given that Robert Shwartzman will be called upon to carry out two free practice sessions during the season, being the rookie who can comply with the FIA standard which imposes teams to give young drivers the opportunity of running on two weekends of the 2023 Formula 1 calendar.
Antonio Giovinazzi and Antonio Fuoco arrived at Mugello after returning from the 6 Hours of Portimao where they raced with the 499P. Antonio Giovinazzi had to settle for sixth place due to a problem with the brakes, while Antonio Fuoco finished in an excellent second place with the #50 shared with Nielsen and Molina.

It is interesting to note how the two departments of the Scuderia, once completely separate, are increasingly synergistic. Ferrari is making the maximum effort in an attempt to get back on top after a very slow and disappointing start in the Formula 1 world championship: even the support of unofficial drivers can become important and ensure them the opportunity to drive the SF21, even if not is a ground effect car, it can be useful to find the parameters in the delicate work on the simulator.
Many engineers and mechanics employed by the test team, which is not very operational due to the ban on private tests, are also beginners and have the opportunity to test themselves by simulating a day during a race weekend. The experience will be important not only for the drivers but more generally for the whole team.
