Dramatic scenes are unfolding in Miami. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, around 1:45 PM local time on Thursday, a man reportedly lost control of his car (a gray Dodge Coupe) while exiting the highway, colliding with a concrete wall, passing through a series of trees, and ultimately ending up in a ravine. The forceful impact ejected the driver from the vehicle, with the man tragically losing his life on the spot.
The Incident’s Dynamics
According to reconstructions, the harrowing incident took place on the southbound ramp of the Turnpike towards Northwest 199th Street, near the Hard Rock Stadium, positioned just above the long straight of the Formula 1 circuit.
The man’s trajectory, whose identity has not yet been determined, concluded at the entrance just below the bridge, shortly after the twisting chicane of the track’s second sector.
Rescuers immediately provided assistance, but unfortunately, there was nothing they could do. The fire department crew declared the driver dead at the scene due to the severe injuries sustained.
It is not yet clear whether the driver lost control of the vehicle due to distraction or if he was impaired by drugs and/or alcohol, with investigators still shedding light on the details of the incident.
No one else was reported injured in the accident. At the moment, neither Formula 1 nor the promoter of the Miami GP has made any public statements.
