Panama, Seoul and Johannesburg are the cities recently visited by Formula 1 chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali that could host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the future.
These three destinations already have plans to host a Formula 1 GP in the future, according to famous paddock journalist Joe Saward.
It is no mystery that Liberty Media is thinking of new destinations for the upcoming seasons. Formula 1 will have a record calendar of 24 races in 2023, which has not gone unnoticed in the paddock or among fans due to its extreme demand. Of course, it seems that this number will grow in the coming years, as Stefano Domenicali continues to think about new destinations and perhaps in two seasons one of these could already be the home of the premier motorsport category.
In recent weeks Stefano Domenicali has visited these three cities. Of the three, the one with the least media influence today is Panama City. The capital of the North American country has suffered large losses in the tourism sector due to the pandemic and they think of a Formula 1 GP as a great incentive to attract more visitors in the coming years.
Seoul is not a new place for the FIA, as the Formula E World Championship ended there this season and the electric category will return to the streets of the South Korean capital in 2023, although this time it will be two months earlier, in June.
Former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali sees it as a major attraction in the Asian market, which has lost relevance in recent years due to China’s removal from the calendar due to the pandemic.
With the restrictions against covid-19 already loosened a little on the Asian continent, motorsport around the world has revisited its view of the continent this year and there are very interesting long-term plans. South Korea, the fifth largest car manufacturing force in the world, is planning an “Albert Park style” circuit near the Hangang River, an area that has many facilities to attract spectators.

Finally, the idea of a return of Formula 1 to Africa has never been out of the question, but the Kyalami option seems to have lost momentum in recent months. Liberty Media is studying the idea of running in Johannesburg, on the streets of Soweto.
