Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, is shaking up the historic circuits. Interviewed on the podcast “La Politica nel Pallone,” the former team principal of Maranello envisions the future of the sport, leveraging the results achieved under Liberty Media’s management. According to the former Ferrari team principal, Formula 1 is experiencing a moment of significant growth, and the goal must be to attract more and more new fans.
“The Covid-19 could have been deadly for Formula 1. We have managed to build, step by step, a growth that has brought us, today, to be one of the most followed sports platforms in the world. We all must be satisfied with that,” said Stefano Domenicali.
The Italian manager then addressed the issue of “tradition.” A word that often seems in contrast to the ultra-modern push of the Circus but is, according to the Formula 1 chief executive officer, held in high regard by the top management of the series.
“Those who grew up with bread and Formula 1 must be shown respect because they have always followed it,” explained Stefano Domenicali. “We must accept criticism if it is constructive and anchor and engage new fans. These, guided by the more experienced, need to be educated about the values of tradition and understand what is behind Formula 1.” – the Italian pointed out – “Tradition, however, is something that has value if it is brought up to date in the future. Otherwise, it remains something to be seen in black and white. It is a central theme of our interest.” – the former Ferrari boss concluded.

These statements are in perfect harmony with the call for historic tracks to keep up with the times to ensure they remain in the Circus. Whether or not it is the right philosophy will be judged by the numbers of Formula 1.
