News regarding the possibility of Carlos Sainz signing a contract extension for two more years with Scuderia Ferrari is continuing to harden. Another step was taken once the Maranello team confirmed it was reuniting with former major sponsor Santander – a Spanish bank which was previously linked with Spaniard Fernando Alonso during his time both McLaren and then Scuderia Ferrari. Santander could replace Ferrari’s long relationship with main sponsor Philip Morris.
More importantly, the news ties up with growing rumours in both Italy and Spain suggesting the Maranello team will sit down with Carlos Sainz in the following weeks to reach an agreement for a new deal. MARCA was the latest to report that Carlos Sainz and Ferrari intend to renew the contract before the first race of the 2022 Formula 1 season, as the contract extension could be until the end of the 2024 campaign.

The Spanish driver, who replaced four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel ahead of the start of the 2021 season, has a contract which is currently available only until the end of next year.
“Leclerc and Sainz are a wonderful driver pair for the future,” Mattia Binotto told European media on Tuesday – “We are very happy with both of them. I am very happy with Leclerc’s continued growth, and Sainz has proved himself. When we announced him, we heard plenty of scepticism but we were convinced that he could score points for us in the constructors’ standings and he has shown it. He finished all the races, he always scored points except in two grands prix – he had a great championship. He fitted in quickly and is now a driver we know we can count on.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
