Criticism towards Ferrari and Charles Leclerc coming from Spain shows no sign of stopping. A few days ago, we reported that the Spanish newspaper Marca had attacked the Prancing Horse team for their strategy in Hungary, which favored the Monegasque driver. Today, we want to talk about Antonio Lobato, the Spanish F1 commentator, who shared his opinion about Ferrari’s number 16 through a video on soymotors.com. Here are his comments:
Antonio Lobato criticizes Charles Leclerc
Antonio Lobato is a Spanish commentator and journalist who works for DAZN and Movistar in the motorsport section, particularly covering Formula 1. Recently, some of his statements about Charles Leclerc have been making headlines:
“I don’t understand the overprotection that Charles Leclerc receives. Not only within the Ferrari team but in general. He is the favorite of the Italian press, Italian fans; if you ask people in the paddock who the best drivers are, he always has a good reputation and receives extensive media coverage. But I wonder, has he really proven that much? Or does he have more fame than he should?”
The Spanish commentator then added: “Imagine you are a team principal, and you have to choose between Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Lando Norris. I would undoubtedly choose George Russell, who doesn’t have the same good reputation as Charles Leclerc, but is much more protected. I don’t understand why. Maybe because people find him likable, and he’s a good driver, but I believe he hasn’t demonstrated how good he truly is as a driver, or he hasn’t been able to reach the same level of fame that the world believes he has.” – the Spanish journalist believes.
Antonio Lobato concluded his intervention by saying: “Sometimes, Charles makes mistakes and loses his temper. I prefer Russell, and if I had to choose a driver to replace Leclerc today, I would replace him with Norris. But most likely, not everyone will agree with my view, but this is my opinion.” – he concluded.
