All eyes in Formula 1 are once again on Ferrari after the controversial remarks made by John Elkann about his two drivers. The comments from the Ferrari president, following the double DNF in Brazil that left the team without points, have stirred debate throughout the paddock and beyond.
Ferrari drivers respond to Elkann’s comments
After a frustrating race weekend, John Elkann sought to send a strong message to his team. However, his words did not go unnoticed and have triggered widespread reaction within the Formula 1 community. Both Ferrari drivers decided to respond through social media, reaffirming their commitment to the Scuderia and their determination to continue working together for improvement.
“I will always keep trying and pushing forward,” Lewis Hamilton wrote, while Charles Leclerc shared a similar message, emphasizing that the team’s interests will always remain the top priority. Many fans and pundits interpreted their posts as a polite but firm response to the criticism coming from the top.
Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz defends Hamilton and Leclerc
Reactions within the paddock soon followed. Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz commented that both drivers “have broad shoulders.” The British journalist explained that it is understandable for the Ferrari president to want to motivate his team, but suggested that his words “may have been a bit too harsh.”
“Saying that the drivers should think less about themselves and more about the team doesn’t reflect reality,” Ted Kravitz stated. “Lewis thinks about the team when he talks about improving the car and performance. Charles thinks about the team when he says that some of the issues pointed out by Lewis are ones he’s also noticed for a long time, and that they need to work together to fix them. They’re all trying to make Ferrari stronger.”
Ted Kravitz also pointed out the unity between the two drivers, noting how both chose to respond calmly and constructively. “Lewis has been honest and direct,” he said. “But what else should he or Charles say? That everything’s perfect? No one would believe that. It’s right for them to show passion and the desire to improve.”
A united front inside Ferrari
At a time when Ferrari is being called to react after a difficult weekend, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have shown a united and constructive attitude. Their messages made it clear that the focus remains firmly on performance and on helping the team progress, rather than fueling internal division. Despite the tension sparked by John Elkann’s comments, the drivers appear determined to keep pushing Ferrari forward, side by side, as the season heads into its decisive stages.
