Ferrari may risk losing Oliver Bearman by 2027, as the young British driver continues to prove that he deserves a place in a top Formula 1 team. The Haas driver, who remains part of Ferrari’s Driver Academy, has shown remarkable progress in recent races, catching the attention of the entire paddock and sparking speculation about his future with the Scuderia.
Impressive performances that prove his potential
In the last two Grands Prix, Oliver Bearman secured a fourth and a fifth place, confirming his steady growth and consistency. His drive in Mexico particularly impressed observers, as he managed the race perfectly while keeping Max Verstappen and both Mercedes drivers in his mirrors for several laps. His recent comparison with teammate Esteban Ocon also highlights his growing confidence with the car, as the British driver has clearly outperformed the more experienced Frenchman.
The future of Oliver Bearman at Maranello
Speaking on the podcast “The Red Flags”, former Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner discussed Ollie Bearman’s potential arrival at Ferrari, setting 2027 as the possible turning point. Steiner suggested that if Ferrari delays too long Ollie Bearman might start considering other opportunities. With his latest results, the young driver is increasingly positioning himself as a strong candidate for a top team seat.
“He’s doing a fantastic job. He’s showing what he’s capable of,” Steiner said. “At the start of the year, he made some mistakes, but now he’s much cleaner. He’s beating Ocon, who is a much more experienced driver and earns a lot more money.”
Steiner added that, “If Ferrari doesn’t offer him a seat for 2027, he’ll end up in another top team anyway. He won’t stay in the midfield — he’s shown everyone what he can do.”
Could Bearman replace Hamilton in the future?
According to Guenther Steiner, one possible scenario could see Oliver Bearman stepping in for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, should the seven-time World Champion have a disappointing 2026 season. Much, however, will depend on Ferrari’s competitiveness in 2026, as driver decisions will be strongly influenced by the performance of next year’s car. If the Scuderia fails to provide a winning package, it might face the serious risk of seeing its young star seek success elsewhere.
For now, Oliver Bearman’s performances continue to impress both inside and outside the Ferrari garage. His combination of maturity, speed, and technical understanding suggests that he could become one of Formula 1’s standout talents in the coming years — provided that Ferrari manages to keep him within its ranks.
