In the usual post-qualifying segment presented by Sky Sport F1, Davide Valsecchi and Federica Masolin commented on the pole position session which took place at the Circuit de Catalunya.
In particular, they focused on the mixed feelings and performance of Scuderia Ferrari, which will start tomorrow with Carlos Sainz in the front row and Charles Leclerc at the back.
“The talent I saw in the last few minutes was something extraordinary because it was a very difficult qualifying session, so the top performers deserve all the credit because, in my opinion, they did something excellent, especially Lando Norris. We haven’t seen much of him this year, but we said this morning that the conditions suited him,” said the GP2 champion, who then continued: “Carlos Sainz also did well to secure a great front-row start. It was important for Ferrari, especially considering the updates they brought to this track. But can we say that they work or does Charles Leclerc’s 19th position raise doubts?” asked the Italian journalist.
“I have doubts about Charles Leclerc because the driver mentioned that he felt something, and I believe him 100% given his talent and sensitivity. Having said that, we need to be careful because many drivers struggled immensely, including him, Perez, and Russell,” Davide Valsecchi said, defending the Monegasque driver.
“A top five finish would be a success.”

The former driver then made a prediction about what could happen tomorrow on a track where overtaking is difficult but certainly not impossible: “The Monegasque driver had difficulties from the first lap, while he was doing well in Free Practice 3. It’s hard to have a problem when the car is untouched, but if he was complaining, it means he sensed something that we didn’t catch. Tomorrow he will be making a comeback, and something can be done here. Of course, reaching the podium would require a crazy race, but even entering the top five would be fantastic.” – he pointed out.
“Carlos Sainz was very impressive because he pushed to the maximum. When I saw Charles Leclerc out, I hoped that Carlos Sainz would secure a front-row start. He showed incredible adaptability and great speed,” concluded Davide Valsecchi, referring to the home driver.
