The shake-up at Haas
The news of the separation between Italian-American motorsport engineer Gunther Steiner and Haas made headlines in Formula 1 specialized newspapers worldwide, but it was preceded – just a few hours earlier – by the announcement of the departure of designer Simone Resta from the American team.
The departure was not officially confirmed by Haas but was acknowledged by the official F1 website, which explained that the Italian had a loan contract from Ferrari expiring in 2023 and was not renewed.
What will Simone Resta do in 2024
Already the Chief Designer at Ferrari between 2014 and 2018, Simone Resta had moved to Alfa Romeo Sauber in 2019 as the head of the technical department and collaborated with Haas since 2021, where he held the position of Technical Director.
After the loan expired, Simone Resta returned to Ferrari on January 1, 2024. However, the engineer from Faenza will not join the Formula 1 team but has been assigned to other areas.
This point was confirmed by F1 expert Lawrence Barretto in a recent article for the official website of Formula 1: “Our sources report that Simone Resta does not yet have a defined role in the Scuderia,” and more explicitly by Italian journalist Fulvio Solms in today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “The designer has returned to Ferrari, to which he is affiliated. He is now part of the road GT sector, and it seems he does not have the opportunity to access the Scuderia.” – Fulvio Solms informs.
