The revolution at Haas, with team principal Guenther Steiner and Simone Resta bidding farewell, could pose a problem for Ferrari.
Just over fifty days before the start of the 2024 Formula One season, Haas witnessed an internal earthquake. Simone Resta, technical director, and Gunther Steiner, ousted from the role of team principal, left the American team.
Gene Haas justified the internal changes in his team as a result of a “drop in performance.” However, it might not be everything.
Bad news for Ferrari:
Simone Resta and Guenther Steiner are both figures tied to the sphere of influence of Ferrari. Until yesterday, Simone Resta even had the management of a department within Maranello entrusted to him.
Moreover, Haas has been using engines and technologies from the Prancing Horse since its debut in F1 in 2016. Could the departure of the two hide the American team’s intention to disengage from the partnership with Ferrari?

If so, it would be terrible news for the Prancing Horse. With Audi entering F1, Ferrari will lose the supply of engines to Sauber at the end of the 2025 season. A potential separation from Haas would, therefore, result in the substantial elimination of the customer base. Relationships with customer teams are crucial. Primarily from an economic perspective but also in terms of feedback. Renault, in this regard, is experiencing the absence of a partner to provide its engines, and it is not surprising that Mercedes has sought to secure long-term partnerships with Williams and McLaren.

Haas for sale:
As Ferrari’s power unit has now returned to the top of performance, behind the changes in the American team, there might even be Gene Haas’s desire to sell the entire package to Andretti.
Similar to Audi, which is progressively acquiring Sauber’s stakes, Andretti could equip itself with an already established structure in F1 and then focus on developing its own engine.
