After the joy, a shocking disqualification hits the #50 Ferrari at Le Mans: technical irregularity with the rear wing
Twist in the aftermath of the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans: the #50 Ferrari 499P of the AF Corse team has been disqualified due to a technical infringement identified during post-race scrutineering. The news was announced Monday evening by the stewards, who found excessive flexing of the rear wing beyond the limits set by the LMH regulations.
According to the official report, car #50 showed a deflection of 52 mm, far beyond the 15 mm maximum permitted by the regulations. Making the situation even more serious was the discovery that four bolts were missing from the wing support, a key component for the rigidity of the entire aerodynamic element.
Ferrari disqualified at Le Mans: consequences for the constructors’ championship
During the final pit stop at 15:23 on Sunday, a Ferrari mechanic had noticed that at least one bolt was missing. However, the team chose not to intervene, relying on telemetry which did not show any variation in top speed. The stewards, however, pointed out that the car recorded its highest top speed on lap 380 of 387, suggesting the rear wing may have provided a significant performance advantage.
The disqualification wipes out the fourth-place finish earned on track by the trio of Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco, and Miguel Molina. They also lose the 24 points earned in the race, dropping their championship total to 57. A heavy blow, especially compared to the 89 points held by the race-winning #83 Ferrari and the 105 points of the #51, current leader of the driver standings.
The #12 Cadillac of Team JOTA, driven by Norman Nato, Alex Lynn, and Will Stevens, moves up to fourth place. The #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid of Kobayashi, Conway, and De Vries climbs to fifth.
In the constructors’ standings, Ferrari would lose 30 points compared to their current tally of 202. Nonetheless, the Scuderia would remain in the lead, but with a significantly reduced margin over the chasing teams.
At this time, it is still unclear whether Ferrari will appeal. If the disqualification is upheld, it would mark a major setback in their 2025 title campaign.
