Let’s take a look at the latest updates regarding the possible name of the single-seater Ferrari will field in the 2026 Formula 1 season. One of the most exciting moments linked to the presentation of a new car is always the announcement of its name. Between theories and expectations, the Tifosi cannot wait to discover the designation that will accompany the car throughout a season that everyone hopes will be full of success and memorable moments.
In this context, during the traditional end-of-year lunch held in Maranello, Fred Vasseur revealed the date on which Ferrari’s new car will be officially presented. Fans will have to wait until 23 January to see what has been described as the first true creation of Loïc Serra. On the same day, Ferrari will also carry out the first shakedown of the year, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc getting the chance to climb aboard for a few kilometres.
As always, thousands of Tifosi are expected to be waiting for them, ready to take their places at Fiorano from the first light of dawn to support their idols up close and witness the first laps of the new Ferrari on track.
But what will the new Ferrari be called?
The Team Principal chose not to give an answer. “For now I won’t tell you. I don’t want to spoil the surprise,” were Fred Vasseur’s words when asked about the topic. His response immediately sparked the curiosity of the Ferrari fanbase, eager to know the name that will accompany the team throughout the entire season.
When it comes to the various hypotheses, the most likely option is undoubtedly SF-26. This would represent a continuation of the naming approach adopted in 2023, maintaining a sense of continuity with recent Ferrari single-seaters. A very similar alternative is SF-26/1, which would symbolise the first year of an important technical revolution for the Scuderia.
Another possibility involves the use of the number 678 in the name, which would recall the internal code that has accompanied this project over the years. It remains to be seen whether Ferrari would opt for F-678 or F1-678 in this scenario.
It appears unlikely that the name of the new single-seater will reference any particular anniversary linked to the Prancing Horse. In 2026, there will be no significant milestones of this kind, and for this reason names inspired by anniversaries can be ruled out.
While the naming of the new car remains a mystery for now, the objective inside the Maranello factory is crystal clear: a total reset. Known internally as “Project 678,” the 2026 challenger represents more than just a new chassis; it is the culmination of a strategic pivot that saw Ferrari sacrifice development in 2025 to gain a head start on the upcoming era of active aerodynamics and hybrid power. With technical director Loic Serra at the helm and a driver lineup determined to bring the title back to Italy, the upcoming January launch will be the first glimpse at whether this “all-in” gamble on the new regulations will finally return the Prancing Horse to the summit of Formula 1.
