Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has responded to the wave of rumours surrounding the Maranello team, stressing that Ferrari remains focused on its own reality and praising the unity and determination he found inside the squad at Sepang. Speaking shortly before the delayed start of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Benedetto Vigna also addressed Ferrari’s recent run without a podium and made clear that competitiveness remains the overriding priority.
Benedetto Vigna was present in Malaysia to support Ferrari during a weekend that has already generated considerable attention around the team. The Italian executive spoke to Sky Italia while Formula 1 waited for conditions to allow the delayed Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang to get under way.
Benedetto Vigna praises unity inside Ferrari
The Ferrari CEO explained that his trip to Sepang had been planned for some time and highlighted the atmosphere he encountered within the team.
“I had been planning to come here for a while, and what I liked – speaking to my colleagues this morning – was finding a united, determined team that always wants to do better. Today all the ‘red shirts’ around me were more than convinced, more than determined. So it is always very nice when you see all your colleagues so motivated and united.”
The comments arrive during a period in which speculation around Ferrari has intensified, including questions surrounding the team’s leadership and long-term direction. The debate has also placed renewed attention on Ferrari’s communication and the rumours surrounding the team.
Ferrari CEO responds to recent rumours
Benedetto Vigna also directly addressed the many stories that have emerged around Ferrari in recent weeks, making clear that the company prefers to concentrate on what is actually happening internally.
“What matters to us is reality. And there is only one reality, and that is what matters to us and should matter to everyone. But that’s fine, the important thing is to learn how to manage these situations.”
Ferrari has repeatedly sought to reinforce the message of stability during the recent speculation, with the team also offering public support for its current management as comparisons with previous leadership changes have resurfaced. That wider context has recently included Ferrari’s renewed backing of Fred Vasseur.
Benedetto Vigna focuses on Ferrari competitiveness amid podium drought
Attention then returned to the immediate challenge at Sepang. Asked about Ferrari’s ongoing sequence of races without a podium, Benedetto Vigna emphasised that the key objective is to remain competitive regardless of the conditions.
“We expected the weather to be good. Yesterday the guys achieved a good result and today we will see, the important thing is to be competitive. The rain is there for us and it is there for the others too, and that is the beauty of live sport. It doesn’t apply only to us, it applies to everyone. So we will enjoy this race as soon as the water allows us to start and we will be competitive.”
The unusual weather therefore adds another variable to a weekend in which Ferrari is trying to convert its encouraging qualifying performance into a much-needed result. How the team performs relative to Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren can also be followed through the Ferrari vs F1 Rivals statistics.
For Benedetto Vigna, however, the message before the start was straightforward: Ferrari remains united internally, will not allow external speculation to define its direction and must now demonstrate its competitiveness on track.
