Former Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel drove the Williams FW14B and McLaren MP4/8 on the final day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, he did so using sustainable fuels to promote his “Race without a trace” cause.
Sebastian Vettel’s goal is to demonstrate that “you can have fun but perhaps in a more responsible way. It’s something that maybe not everyone has fully understood yet.” But he has expressed further concerns that Formula 1, which will transition to 100% sustainable fuels from 2026, risks disappearing without more significant changes. He pointed to the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix earlier this year as further evidence of how crucial it is to be concerned about the climate in this sport.
“I think many people notice that the climate crisis is already impacting many people and places around the world today. The Emilia Romagna region obviously experienced a massive drought, then suddenly, seemingly endless rain, causing massive floods. You had the Miami race at risk because two or three weeks prior, again, it was flooded and the actual track was underwater, so the race could have been canceled if it happened three weeks later.” – the former Ferrari man pointed out.
“It could be that next year no race will be threatened, but that’s not how it works. You have to recognize that the world is changing and it has an impact on our lives.” – the four-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
