Vettel also among critics of modern F1
Formula 1 has approved a series of regulation changes after the first three races of the season exposed significant limitations related to qualifying performance and the safety of the new generation of cars. To properly assess the impact of these updates, which came after extensive discussions between the FIA, Formula 1, teams, drivers, and power unit manufacturers, the sport will now have to wait for the Miami Grand Prix weekend.
However, the early impression is that the overall balance remains fragile, with the added complexity of increased electrical power output potentially creating a bottleneck that will be difficult to resolve in the short term.
Among those who have voiced criticism of the new direction of Formula 1 is Sebastian Vettel. The four-time world champion has taken a stance similar to that of Max Verstappen, who has even suggested he could consider stepping away from a sport he no longer fully recognises.
Vettel’s words
“From a sporting point of view, I understand and share the criticism. The cars may well be fun to drive, but it is probably not as enjoyable to race because of the regulations and the difficulties they create,” the German commented.
“I stand in solidarity with the drivers and I am very careful not to lose the DNA and the soul of this sport, which is about finding the fastest driver in the fastest car.” – the former Ferrari driver pointed out.
He added: “I hope that, from a sporting perspective, the changes make the drivers happier, because at the end of the day the drivers are the face of this sport.”
“If they get out of the car full of adrenaline and enthusiasm, that also excites the audience.”
